Bicentennial Hymn

Back in the Fall of 2018, the Office of Worship in collaboration with the Bicentennial Planning Task Force, began to coordinate a 2020 Bicentennial Hymn Competition for the Diocese of Richmond to find a hymn that expresses the history of our diocese and commemorates our 200th Anniversary as a Diocese.

The winning hymn, We Shine Like Stars in the World, commemorates this special occasion, incorporating the bicentennial motto from Philippians. The hymn can be sung by a cantor and assembly, as well as include a range of instrumentation and choral harmony. In addition, the hymn includes verses in Spanish.

Please note, the license agreement between the Diocese and the composer for use of the hymn, “We Shine Like Stars in the World,” during the Bicentennial Year concluded on Monday, January 18, 2021. Beginning Tuesday, January 19, 2021, if a parish desires to use the hymn, they should contact the composer, Dan Keeley, directly to discuss its use; his contact information is listed below:
